Another Workers Killed in Atlanta While Working on Construction Project at Interstate-285 and GA 400

Last Friday, a male construction worker suffered a fall while working on a project on Interstate-285 and Georgia 400 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was repairing the roadway there with a group of construction workers from Atlanta-based North Perimeter Contractors. On Friday evening, rescue crews were called to the site to tend to the worker who had reportedly fell at the interchange.

Rescue crews from the Sandy Springs Fire Department and AMR personnel responded quickly to the call and arrived at the scene just minutes after the man had fallen. They were able to extricate the victim from the roadway and perform emergency treatment. They said they had stabilized the man before the was transported to the local hospital. Sadly, shortly after arriving at the hospital, the man succumbed to his injured and was pronounced dead.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner identified the victim as Leoniso Sandoval, a 49-year old man from Norcross, Georgia. There were no details about how long Sandoval had worked for North Perimeter Contractors or how long he had been assigned to this project. However, the authorities did confirm that this isn’t the first worker who has been hurt or killed while working on the Interstate-285/GA 400 interchange project. Another employee was killed in an accident there in October of 2019.

The investigation is still ongoing according to Georgia Department of Transportation spokesperson Natalie Dale. They have provided no details as to why Sandoval fell or what caused him to suffer fatal injuries. No other workers appear to have been involved in the accident. The company expressed their condolences to Sandoval’s family and friends but have made no specific comments about how dangerous this project seems to be.
