Your husband goes off to work in the morning. You give him a kiss and watch him pull away. You never think it’s the last time you’re going to see him. Why would you? We go to work every day and come home perfectly safe. The last thing you expect is for your spouse or loved one to get killed in an industrial accident.
This is what happened to a young man in Clyattsville last week. Tyler Seacrist worked at the Packaging Capital of America – a paper mill about 230 miles outside of downtown Atlanta. On November 18, he was working near a conveyor belt that had jammed. Instead of shutting the power off, the men left it on. When the belt started back up, Seacrist was thrown into a piece of running machinery.
Sadly, Seacrist was killed instantly. The coroner said they couldn’t even perform an autopsy because the accident was so gruesome. In fact, he said that accident is the worst he had seen in his entire career.
There has been no comment from the victim’s family. Nor has there been any comment from the paper mill or management. The cause of death isn’t under question. The victim was buried shortly after the accident.
In cases like this, clearly something went wrong. It doesn’t really matter who was responsible, the family is entitled to damages. Their loved one died while doing his job. The last thing they should have to worry about is their family member being killed.
If you or a loved one get hurt in any sort of work related accident, call our Atlanta workers compensation lawyers right away. If they die because of someone else’s negligence, you may be entitled to damages.
